A 400-page budget PDF is technically public and practically unusable. Publishing the same numbers as CSV or JSON — line item, department, fund, fiscal year — lets residents, journalists and students compare years without retyping tables.
This example petition asks for machine-readable publication of the proposed and adopted budget, plus quarterly actuals, under an open license.
Adapt it by naming your city’s open data portal, if it has one, and the date its budget is normally released.
