Not a government website

JFK Debate is an independent civic technology project. It is not a government agency, is not operated by or for any city, county, state or federal body, and nothing published here is an official notice, a public record, or a substitute for the information your jurisdiction publishes. Government seals, names and links appear only to identify the bodies we cover.

No affiliation with the Kennedy Library or family

“JFK” on this site stands for Justice, Freedom, Knowledge. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, the Kennedy family, the JFK Center for the Performing Arts, or any organization named for President Kennedy.

Not legal, financial or professional advice

Our guides describe general civic processes — public comment, petitions, records requests, elections — which vary by state, county and city and change over time. They are educational material, not legal advice, and reading them creates no attorney-client or professional relationship. For a decision with legal or financial consequences, consult a qualified professional or the relevant government office.

Accuracy of directory and meeting information

We compile the local government directory from official sources and re-check it on a schedule, but jurisdictions change meeting nights, chambers, phone numbers, agenda systems and addresses without notice, sometimes the same week. Always confirm on the official website or with the clerk’s office before you travel to a meeting, file a document or rely on a deadline. Regular schedules shown on this site describe the pattern a body has adopted, not a guarantee that a meeting will occur.

User-generated content

Debates, arguments, votes and petitions are created by users. They represent their authors, not JFK Debate. We require sources, we label verification and we moderate against our community guidelines, but we do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness or good faith of any user contribution. Treat arguments here as arguments, and check the cited source yourself — every one is linked for exactly that reason.

Example content

Some content is published as a worked example to demonstrate how the platform functions — most notably the example initiatives, which are labeled as such. Examples have not been filed with any government body, no signatures have been collected on them, and any response text shown is an illustration of the interface, not a statement by the body named.

Third-party links

We link extensively to government, news, academic and non-profit websites. We do not control them, are not responsible for their content or availability, and a link is not an endorsement. External sites have their own terms and privacy practices.

Elections

We are non-partisan and do not endorse candidates, parties or ballot measures. Election dates, registration deadlines and ballot contents are set by state and local election officials — verify them with your election office, not with us.

Forward-looking statements

Where we describe features, plans or funding intentions, those are current intentions and not commitments. Product plans change.

Limitation

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim liability for decisions taken in reliance on this site. The full terms are in the terms of use.
